about us

We're from the Syracuse, NY, area and started dating when we went to BYU-Idaho for college. We were married December 2008 and have a daughter, Sophie. We will be welcoming a new baby in November 2013! We currently live in Mason, Ohio, near lots of family! Drew is working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. Carissa is now a stay-at-home wife and momma! We know there's more in store for us in our future, and we say, "Come what may and love it!"

Our newest little addition!

If you didn't read our last post, we had to put our cat, Leo, down because he was suffering from a disease. The following week, Nolan, our other cat, was struggling being alone during the day so we went to Four Paws Pet Adoption (the cat shelter nearby) to adopt a new kitty friend for Nolan.

We tried to go about it slowly, but we ended up finding our little girl quickly! On Monday, "Tink" caught our eye; she was so affectionate to us but we also saw her playful side. We also had another 2 kitties on our minds, too: Danny and Xavier.

On Wednesday, we went back to get to know the three cats better, but we ended up taking Tink home to foster for a few days to see how she got along with Nolan. The introduction was priceless! Tink completely ignored Nolan and went about finding her favorite spots. Every time the little girl passed our big boy, he would BOP her on the head and run away! He wasn't a fan of this new "friend" we found for him.

We considered taking Tink back to the shelter because she was stressing Nolan out so much, but we wanted to give it more than a day. After 2-3 days, they were playing together and the hissing was gone! Success!

We decided to keep the little girl and went to adopt her that Saturday. We renamed her Pepper, but we ended up mostly just calling her "the girl" or "little girl" (just like my in-laws' cat, Lily). We found a new friend for Nolie, and gave her a forever home!

Here are some pictures of our new little girl, Pepper, our big little boy, Nolan, as he stands watch, and some proof of their sweeter relationship:

Lately...

Holy MOLY!

From January until now it has been a roller coaster ride! Drew and I had a busy semester of classes, received a new calling at church, lost a couple little members of our family, and just kept very chaotic schedules...

Drew is coming up on his SECOND to last week of finals in his undergrad program, and I am just finishing up my 1st semester of college after being out of school for 3 years. Unfortunately, we've made the decision that I won't be going back to school here at BYU-Idaho, and we'll see what happens concerning my education in the future. Maybe culinary school?

Drew is one of the smartest men I know. He had a bit of a rough semester but he stuck it out like a trooper! He's my hero! And he's almost done with undergrad -- WOOHOO!!

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I was released from my calling at church as a member of the Primary presidency (teaching the children during Sunday school). I received a new, WONDERFUL calling as an Indexer for family history work. I'm part of a team that takes a few hours per week to decipher historical documents that have been scanned in to the Family Search Indexing program. I get to do work for genealogy and I love it! I can take my time, do a few minutes when I get the time, AT HOME, and submit the deciphered files back into the system. Great calling!

As for losing some little family members... On March 12, Drew and I had to make the terrible decision to put our kitty, Leo, to sleep. He developed a disease that was eating away at his intestines, and eventually he lost his appetite and his will to live. He is no longer suffering, and for that reason, we are glad to have helped him on. We sure loved that kitty... we took loads of pictures in his last week (we only knew about his condition for 5 days).

We also got the news a few days later that my puppy at home (my mom and dad's dog, Lexi) was at the vet while she was sick, and she died sometime in the night. She wasn't well, and she was suffering. My dad was pretty upset, especially because he was in Ohio when it happened.

Even though it was hard for us to lose our pets, we know they're not in pain anymore and that we'll have them when we go to Heaven. The Lord knows our hearts and He knows how much we care for and love our pets. I have always known that Heavenly Father won't keep the ones we love (even our cats and dogs, etc.) away from us once we leave this world. We'll see them again! :)

Overall, a pretty hectic few months. I apologize for my lack of updates. I'll try to get better!

Love you all!
