about us

We're from the Syracuse, NY, area and started dating when we went to BYU-Idaho for college. We were married December 2008 and have a daughter, Sophie. We will be welcoming a new baby in November 2013! We currently live in Mason, Ohio, near lots of family! Drew is working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. Carissa is now a stay-at-home wife and momma! We know there's more in store for us in our future, and we say, "Come what may and love it!"

one of my favorites

oh, hi!

It's been too long, huh?
The last time I wrote, Sophie was 10 months. Well, guess what. She's almost 16 months now - can you believe it?! Time flies when you have children... or, in my case, even just one child.
Well, in the past 6 months, we've had a lot happen. Right before Thanksgiving, WE MOVED! We now live in a 2-bedroom apartment in Mason, Ohio, (just 2 miles away from my dad and family) and we're loving it! Drew started a new job at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. He is successful and likes the work, even though it's super busy. He speaks like an insurance guy now - sometimes using insurance terms or thinking with his "insurance brain" in normal conversation.
Sophie had her first Thanksgiving meal (other than the milk she drank in the hospital the day she was born the year before) and turned ONE year old! That was back in November, but still! Here are some photos from her birthday party:

For an early Christmas gift, Drew sent me and Sophie to Kansas for a visit while he was at training in Indianapolis! It was great!

Sophie also had her first really fun Christmas! It was fun for this momma and daddy too! We loved watching Soph open her presents (don't worry, we didn't go overboard -- but the grandparents did!) and seeing her new books, toys, and baby dolls!

We've also done some other fun things since the holidays...
We went to the aquarium (where our camera battery died after 5 minutes) and Sophie ate spaghetti for the first time by herself. I made Vietnamese beef pho for our special Valentine's Day dinner and we've just been enjoying our time together in our new home!
We went for a short visit to Youngstown last weekend. That's always fun for Soph. She's got second cousins there that make her feel welcome and are very sweet and fun to play with!

That's all for now, I guess! More updates as they come!

tender moments

I find myself wishing "my baby" was still a baby.
I miss her smallness, though she's still small for her age.
I miss her wanting to snuggle with me.
I miss so many things about the baby stages, but there have been so many sweet, rewarding, tender moments as my baby morphs into a toddler....

Sophie will snuggle with me when she's sleepy or sick. She lays her head on my shoulder or my chest, willingly, and just lets me snuggle her.
I find myself going into her bedroom at night just to see her. She sleeps so peacefully and I wonder what she dreams of. Sometimes she wakes up crying and the only thing to soothe her is a warm momma and a good rocking in the chair.
Sophie loves to giggle. Sometimes it makes me giggle too. Sometimes it makes me cry with joy. The musical sound of her laughter makes my heart melt.
My favorite time of the day is when Sophie wakes from her nap, sleepy-eyed, and lounges on my lap while trying to wake up.... Most of the time, Soph will look up at me, take her binky out of her mouth, and slowly says, "Ma-ma".

Being Sophie's momma is one of the most rewarding things I have ever experienced. I love her more than I thought I could ever love someone who isn't Drew. We both feel that she has made our world as it should be. What a sweet heart!

Today.

Today my baby is 10 months old.
I'm feeling very emotional about it. I'm missing my little teeny snuggly baby who loved sleeping with me and smiled at me all the time with that sweet toothless grin.
Now my baby is quadruple her birth weight (which is a big deal after being born at 4 lbs 2 oz), doesn't like snuggling unless she's half asleep, and has 5 teeth. I feel like I've let the time slip away. She's growing too quickly for my liking. She'll be a year old in just 2 short months. I want my time with her to slow down so every moment can really sink in. Taking pictures and videos isn't enough! I want to press pause on the moments when she just looks at me with a sweet stare or when she giggles at silly things when she's sleepy. I guess I'll just have to do my best to soak it all in as it comes.
Well, we can't escape it, so here are the updates... lately, Sophie:
-weighs 16 lbs 5 oz, 27 inches
-wears size 3 diapers
-wears some 3-6/6 month clothing and some 6-9/9 month clothing
-loves when we say "I love you!"
-crawls everywhere and loves to explore the house!
-has a crawl that's more of a bear crawl (on hands and feet) than a traditional crawl (hands and knees)
-loves books and spends time every day "reading" to herself aloud
-loves the show "Little Einsteins" and gets so excited when the beginning theme song plays
-nurses 4 times daily and eats stage 2 and 3 foods & snacks
-loves loves LOVES Cheerios and feeding herself
-dances with her bum when there's music
-has 5, almost 7, teeth, which we brush every night
-has a fun sense of humor!
-loves spending time with her family: Gaga, Jaja, Uncle Scott and Uncle Nate
-has had 2 ear infections... :-(
-likes to eat "table food"-basically anything we're eating and can be gummed or crunched with her little teeth
-still won't use a sippy cup or bottle
-likes to sing during the songs at church (it's more of a long monosyllabic yell, but we get it)
-uses her "pinching fingers" to grab her snacks
-found the electrical outlets and thought it was HILARIOUS to crawl faster toward them when we go to catch and stop her
-loves her daddy so much that what she says all day is "Da-di!"
-chews on everything! darn teething!
-opens her mouth WIDE when she's being silly
-surprisingly, doesn't play with the dog's toys... not a lot, at least
-likes to Skype with Grandma and Grandpa Case!
-met a lot of family! (Aunt Dawn, cousins Nicole and Carly, Carmine [Nicole's hub], 2nd cousins Melina, Tessa [Nicole's] and Jayden [Carly's], Grandma Drogowski, Uncle Stan, Grandma & Pap Pap Dumas, Aunt Linda, Aunt Kerry & Uncle Jim, and cousin David Patrick)
