about us

We're from the Syracuse, NY, area and started dating when we went to BYU-Idaho for college. We were married December 2008 and have a daughter, Sophie. We will be welcoming a new baby in November 2013! We currently live in Mason, Ohio, near lots of family! Drew is working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. Carissa is now a stay-at-home wife and momma! We know there's more in store for us in our future, and we say, "Come what may and love it!"

My "Get Healthy" Initiative

That's right, I'm finally getting motivated to lose these baby inches!
Today is day one.
The plan:
Eat healthy breakfast, snacks, and lunch
Eat smaller portion of whatever is for dinner
Drink lots of water
Only drink diet soda
Do some sort of activity to include cardio and core strengthening exercises
Take Sophie on a walk (a little cardio in there!)
Watch a LOT less TV
Make a check list every day to make sure I am proactive!

Announcing this on our blog may seem silly to you, but I think it'll help with my accountability. I NEED someone, or something, to keep me on track with my goal. I will need your help (if anyone reads this!) to keep me going. I know there may be times I'll want to "take a break" from this "Get Healthy" initiative, but I know it'll be the end of it if I stop at all. Will you help me stay on track?

As of right now, I don't have any sort of weight number or size number in mind that I want to get down to. I just want to feel healthier. My body is in poor shape. It needs to end now.

Let's do this!!

baby cereal!

One week before Sophie turned 5 months, Soph's doctor suggested we start her on baby cereal! So we bought some rice cereal, mixed it up with some breast milk, and fed it to our little one. She didn't quite like it...

On top of Sophie not being a fan of rice cereal, it stopped her up for 7 days! She was in pain and was very cranky! During that time, we gave Sophie pureed prunes and warmed up baby juice. Not bad. A few days after her bowel problem was resolved, we tried some baby oatmeal (giving her a little more fiber to help things move along). She actually seemed to like it! The second night, she even wanted more after she finished her little bowl full. Our baby is getting so big... she can even eat solids! WHAT?!

Super cute, right?! She loves her food!

In addition to baby cereal, Sophie has since added in baby food veggies. YUCK! I divvy up each jar into thirds, giving her one third each day. The first night she didn't like her sweet potatoes at all! The second night she couldn't get enough of them fast enough! The third night she liked them at the beginning then started spitting them out. The same thing has happened with green beans. We'll see how peas go!

Sophie's first movie

We took Sophie with us to see the Disney Nature movie, Chimpanzee! Drew knew the first showing of the day would be poorly attended (and that was perfect for us with a 5-month-old), so we went to a 1:00 pm movie! There were only 2 people in the theater, sitting in the front, so we sat in the very back at the top. Sophie needed to nurse as soon as we got there, and she was so good! After eating, she was in a chatty mood (AHH!) but she was happy. So we stuck a plug in her mouth (binky!) and she happily sat and watched the chimps and watched us watching the movie.
Eventually she got sleepy and cranky, so I swaddled her, stood up, and snuggled her, and she went right to sleep! Yay! She woke at the end of the movie, just in time for us to go home.
We know she won't remember it, but she was so good for her first movie theater outing! We'll make sure we tell her all about it someday when she understands. Maybe we'll even buy "Chimpanzee" for her and watch it with her for a special occasion later on.
Movies. We love 'em! Hopefully Sophie will too.

(Side note: During this movie, I decided that Sophie is like our own little chimpanzee. She has the crazy hair, the big brown eyes, and the cute ears that stick way out. Not sure how she'll feel, later, knowing that I have called her "my little chimpanzee"...)
