about us

We're from the Syracuse, NY, area and started dating when we went to BYU-Idaho for college. We were married December 2008 and have a daughter, Sophie. We will be welcoming a new baby in November 2013! We currently live in Mason, Ohio, near lots of family! Drew is working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. Carissa is now a stay-at-home wife and momma! We know there's more in store for us in our future, and we say, "Come what may and love it!"

Lately...

Sophie and I have been keeping busy outside this fall! She loves being outside - and it makes for good nap times, too! :)
We went to 2 pumpkin patches with my dad. Sophie LOVED the "punkins" and ran up and down the aisles of pumpkins over and over and over. It's been over a month since we went, and Sophie still talks about "Jaja! Punkins!" all the time. So cute!

Sophie loves her Nanette! I couldn't help but snag a photo while we were at church...
The Ackleys and Cryders (my aunt's family - including this sweet Nanette) have since moved to Utah and we are upset about it! Hopefully we'll see them if they come visit their other family in the area.

Sophie and I also took a trip to an awesome apple orchard with my family! Poor Drew has to work all the time, but my family has been so wonderful to include us in fun activities like this.
Sophie loves apples. This girl ate 3 apples out in those fields and still wanted more after her nap that day. Crazy kid! She loved holding hands with her Gaga and following Jaja around and pulling apples off the trees.

Our ward had a fun family-friendly Halloween party this past weekend! There was a chili contest (we ate until we were stuffed!), a dessert contest, Trunk or Treat, and a costume contest! Sophie makes the perfect "Boo" from the movie Monsters, Inc., so we decided to go with that theme as a family! I put together our costumes for less than $12 - thrift store shirts, a little paint and glue, and some creative thinking, and we had some very homemade but fun costumes!

This is Bradley, Soph, and Reece: all we wanted was a cute kid photo, but it ended up not going well! Bradley's elbow popped out of its socket, Sophie didn't want to be near a crying (and completely justified in it) Bradley, and all 3 of them were just getting so sleepy.
Though the pictures didn't turn out the way we wanted, these kiddos were the cutest ones at the party! (I'm super biased.)
Bradley went as a car mechanic (his costume sewn by his very talented momma, Jill), Sophie as Boo, and Reece as a very stinkin' cute owl.

Here's Soph with her Trunk or Treat haul! She got about 10 pieces of candy (we stopped before going to all of the trunks - 10 is more than enough for her) and she was so happy to have her "cheats" (treats) in her "but-tet" (bucket).

And now we're playing the waiting game. Baby boy is due in 10 days (November 8th). TEN DAYS! Ahh!!! I feel like there are still a million things to do before we bring him home. I know whenever that time comes, though, everything will be just fine. I'm a little nervous about labor and delivery. I've never experienced going into labor naturally... I've done the reading... I've talked with my doctors... I "know what to expect"... but I'm still nervous! Plus, this baby is HUGE compared to what Sophie was at birth. We had an ultrasound on Friday to check his size and he weighed approximately 6 lbs 13 oz. HOLY COW. Sophie was only 4 lbs 2 oz. I'm not sure I'll know what to do with such a big baby, especially delivering someone so large. Yikes!
I'll post again once he's born. But, until then, I'll be keeping my little snippets of updates on Facebook. Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers that all goes well, please!

Love you all!

What's up with us lately...

Sophie and I flew to Kansas City for Labor Day weekend for my step dad, Dave's, birthday. Sophie had a blast playing with her Grandma, Grandpa, cousin Dane, and Aunties Celeste and Christine! She loved reading with Grandma and played with the baby dolls constantly. We took a day trip to Union Station downtown and saw the train exhibit. Sophie's favorite part was the kids' hands-on play time! We also went to the Crayola store - everyone loved that!

When we got back to Ohio, my wonderful friend, Jill Montoya, threw a baby shower for me! Since I'm having a "little man," we did a mustache theme! SO CUTE. It was simple and fun and very relaxing! I had a few friends and some family members there. What a great success! Thanks, Jill!

Not much else has been going on since. We've been to the zoo, we hang out at home a lot, and we're preparing for this new little person to enter our lives! A little over a month til he comes! HOORAY!

It's a BOY!!!!

Baby Boy Barron

Due to make his appearance around November 8, 2013!

13 May 2013

A few May photos

We went to the Cincinnati Zoo! We finally redeemed our zoo membership that we received for Christmas. Now we can go whenever we want!

Sophie being a goof

Soph refused to take a serious picture on Mother's Day. She wore this dress to church, which is actually her momma's dress from when she was little! We thought it the appropriate day to have her wear it. Doesn't she look adorable?!

Pregnant!

Well, we're doing it... we're expanding our family! Baby Barron is expected around November 8, 2013, and we find out the gender in about 6 weeks' time.

I am currently a little more than 14 weeks along and am feeling great! I don't even notice this pregnancy. Sophie helps keep me occupied and active!

We announced our pregnancy with this: (read Sophie's shirt)

We are so excited for this new baby, and we are confident that all will go well!

Tennessee

We went on vacation with Drew's family to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area of Tennessee (in the Smoky Mountains)! We stayed in a gorgeous cabin and spent lots of time together. Here are just a few photos from our week-long trip.

Soph loved being with her Papa and the boys always wanted to be playing mini golf. We made time for family photos and spent lots of our time on the deck over-looking the beautiful mountains!

We also went to the aquarium - fun for everyone!

We had a really fun trip! We hope we can see our Barron family again soon!

one of my favorites

oh, hi!

It's been too long, huh?
The last time I wrote, Sophie was 10 months. Well, guess what. She's almost 16 months now - can you believe it?! Time flies when you have children... or, in my case, even just one child.
Well, in the past 6 months, we've had a lot happen. Right before Thanksgiving, WE MOVED! We now live in a 2-bedroom apartment in Mason, Ohio, (just 2 miles away from my dad and family) and we're loving it! Drew started a new job at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. He is successful and likes the work, even though it's super busy. He speaks like an insurance guy now - sometimes using insurance terms or thinking with his "insurance brain" in normal conversation.
Sophie had her first Thanksgiving meal (other than the milk she drank in the hospital the day she was born the year before) and turned ONE year old! That was back in November, but still! Here are some photos from her birthday party:

All ready to eat cake!

Here, Jaja!

For an early Christmas gift, Drew sent me and Sophie to Kansas for a visit while he was at training in Indianapolis! It was great!

Helping cousin Dane open a gift

Sophie also had her first really fun Christmas! It was fun for this momma and daddy too! We loved watching Soph open her presents (don't worry, we didn't go overboard -- but the grandparents did!) and seeing her new books, toys, and baby dolls!

We've also done some other fun things since the holidays...
We went to the aquarium (where our camera battery died after 5 minutes) and Sophie ate spaghetti for the first time by herself. I made Vietnamese beef pho for our special Valentine's Day dinner and we've just been enjoying our time together in our new home!
We went for a short visit to Youngstown last weekend. That's always fun for Soph. She's got second cousins there that make her feel welcome and are very sweet and fun to play with!
Reading scriptures (Book of Mormon stories) with Daddy
Every baby needs a mohawk in the bath!

SPAGHETTI!

Pho

Piggy tails
Looks so grown up!
Loves riding the horsey!

Playing "chase" - a.k.a. running in circles with cousins

That's all for now, I guess! More updates as they come!
