about us

We're from the Syracuse, NY, area and started dating when we went to BYU-Idaho for college. We were married December 2008 and have a daughter, Sophie. We will be welcoming a new baby in November 2013! We currently live in Mason, Ohio, near lots of family! Drew is working at Liberty Mutual Insurance as an Auto Claims Adjuster. Carissa is now a stay-at-home wife and momma! We know there's more in store for us in our future, and we say, "Come what may and love it!"

SEVEN months!

Sophie has been learning and growing so much lately! I can't believe that in 5 short months she'll be 1 year old!
As of today, 7 months, Sophie:
-wears size 2 diapers
-wears 3-6 month and 6 month clothing
-weighs around 14 pounds
-can sit on her own!
-reaches for toys around her and will play happily by herself for at least 20 minutes at a time
-goes after objects that she wants persistently
-has one tooth (number 2 isn't far away though!)
-eats 3 baby food meals per day (1st foods - stage 1)
-still nurses for her main nutrition
-talks all the time!
-will have a "conversation" with you making sounds back and forth (that's Drew's favorite!)
-takes 2-3 naps a day... depending on her mood, I guess...
-went to the Columbus zoo for the first time
-went to King's Island amusement park for the first time
-spent lots of time with Uncle Dirky and Auntie Stefanie during their visit
-received some new toys from Gaga, like her very own remote control!
-is VERY ticklish, especially in her armpits and ribs
-makes silly sounds with her mouth (sucks in her bottom lip and pops it back out), and thinks it's hilarious!
-has been to multiple movies at the movie theater
-loves to read books with her Momma
-lays down for bed and naps very easily, but doesn't sleep well at night or for very long during nap time
-got her first sippy cup, but doesn't like using it for much more than a toy
-is starting to like her car seat and loves to play and babble while in the car
-is beginning to like music and dance to it a bit!
-went shopping with Gaga, Momma, and Auntie Stef at the mall for the first time (an all-girl outing!)
-likes to play with other babies!

Our favorite Sophie-isms:
-She rolls her ankles when she's snuggling
-She knows exactly what toy she wants and GOES for it! (even if it's not a toy - like a remote or cell phone)
-She loves her family, and shows it so freely
-She'll eat her feet and toes whenever she can get close to them
-She says "MMM" while eating baby food
-She is such a people-person and greets everyone with a huge grin!
-The only person she'll sit back and relax with is Daddy
-She watches our mouths when we eat or sing and mimics our movements
-She can make us happy like no one else.

Dirk & Stef's visit

This week, my brother, Dirk, and his wife, Stefanie, have been visiting from Ottawa, Canada! We've been doing lots of fun things like going to the Columbus Zoo, playing at King's Island amusement park, shopping at the mall with the girls, and much more! Sophie has really loved having her Auntie Stef and Uncle Dirky here! They seem to really love being with her, too! Krista and Tyler have been up here from Lexington this whole week to visit, too, so we've spent lots of time with them.
Here are some photos from this week:

We'll miss you, Dirk and Stef! But we're glad you could come have fun with us this week!!

sitting

About 2 days ago, I tried putting Sophie on the floor to see if she would sit up on her own. She was a little wobbly and unsure of herself, but she sat well! After a few days of falling over and crying and getting scared of falling, she finally got the hang of it and decided that sitting up was something she could do. What a smart girl! Her little body was ready to sit. She's loving this new-found independence! Soph will sit on her own for at least 15-20 minutes at a time and just play with her toys. She's really started to reach for what she wants, especially her foam bathtub numbers and letters, which she loves to chew on with her little tooth.
Sophie's core strength is increasing and she's getting steadier every day. She'll be crawling any time now! Not sure if we're ready....
